VI Positive Self Advocacy Toolkit

In a significant step towards empowering children and young people with vision impairment, the SenCom Vision Impairment Service has partnered with Guide Dogs to create a comprehensive Positive Self-Advocacy Toolkit. This toolkit, which amalgamates resources, activities, and self-advocacy guides, is designed to promote positive self-advocacy among the vision impairment community.

The toolkit was launched at the National VIEW (Vision Impairment Education Workforce) Conference in Birmingham by Lisa Reynolds and Sarah Hughes from SenCom Vision Impairment Service, alongside Andrea Davies from Guide Dogs. The launch was met with enthusiasm from the vision impairment education community, and the toolkit is now available for free on the Guide Dogs website, making it accessible to the vision impairment education workforce worldwide.

The Positive Self-Advocacy Toolkit is aligned with the Curriculum Framework for Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (CFVI), which outlines the essential skills that children need to acquire throughout their education to be prepared for adult life. By providing editable resources and activities, the toolkit aims to support the development of these skills and enhance the overall educational experience for children and young people with vision impairment.
