Meeting other d/Deaf children and young people can have a hugely positive impact on a child's confidence, communication skills, wellbeing, and sense of identity. Building friendships with peers who share similar experiences helps children feel understood, included, and empowered to be themselves.
At SenCom, we recognise how important these connections are. That's why we run regular Listen Up Social Events and our Playgroup for d/Deaf Children, where families can meet, share experiences, and build lasting friendships in a welcoming and supportive environment.
In addition to the activities that we organise, there are many organisations across Wales offering further opportunities for d/Deaf children and young people to get involved, develop new skills, and meet others within the Deaf community.
Wales Deaf Football Association
The Wales Deaf Football Association offers opportunities for d/Deaf players to participate in football and develop their skills. A youth academy has recently been established, providing young people with a chance to train, compete, and connect with other d/Deaf players. Wales Deaf Rugby

Quiet Beats is part of Jones the Dance's Young Company and is specifically designed for young d/Deaf people with an interest in dance and performance. Taking Flight Theatre Company
Taking Flight Theatre Company works to make the arts more accessible and inclusive. They provide creative opportunities for d/Deaf and disabled young people to engage in theatre, performance, and storytelling while developing confidence and self-expression.
WRU Deaf Community Days
The WRU Deaf Community Days(opens in new tab) are inclusive rugby events designed for deaf and hard of hearing children and young people across Wales. Delivered by Wales Deaf Rugby Union in partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union and regional rugby organisations, these fun and engaging sessions provide an opportunity to develop rugby skills, build confidence, make new friends and experience the game in a supportive environment. With British Sign Language (BSL) support, player meet-and-greets, coaching activities and clear progression pathways into community rugby, the events help ensure that every young person has the opportunity to participate and thrive in the sport.
Operasonic
Operasonic (opens in new tab)is a Newport-based community music charity that uses music, storytelling and creativity to bring people together. Through a wide range of projects, workshops and performances, Operasonic creates opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to express themselves, develop new skills and celebrate their communities. From supporting young musicians and families to working with marginalised groups, the organisation believes that creativity is a human right and strives to make music accessible, inclusive and meaningful for everyone.
