Our d/Deaf Preschool Playgroup provides a friendly, welcoming space for babies and children aged 0-4 years with a diagnosed deafness. Through fun, play-based activities, children are supported to develop their listening, communication, language, and social skills while families receive specialist advice and support.
Who is the playgroup for?
- Babies and children aged 0-4 years with a diagnosed deafness
- Families living within one of the five Gwent local authority areas
- Parents and carers who would like specialist support and advice following their child's diagnosis
- Families looking to connect with others who have shared experiences of raising a d/Deaf child
What happens at the playgroup?
Children can enjoy a range of engaging activities designed to support their early development, including:
- Play-based learning activities
- Opportunities to develop attention and listening skills
- Support for speech, language, and communication development
- Social interaction with other children in a safe and nurturing environment
- Activities tailored to the needs of d/Deaf children
Families attending the playgroup can access support from qualified Teachers of d/Deaf Children and Young People and specialist staff who can provide:
- Advice about childhood deafness
- Guidance on supporting communication and language development at home
- Information about hearing technology, equipment, and listening devices
- Individual advice to help children reach their full potential
