Listen Up @ St James ICC (September)

Children at the Listen Up group

About this event

Our Listen Up Social Group is a celebration of d/Deaf children and young people aged 4 to 18 years. The group provides a welcoming, inclusive environment where children and young people can have fun, be themselves, and connect with others who share similar experiences.

Joining Listen Up offers opportunities to:

  • Build friendships with other d/Deaf children and young people.
  • Develop self-esteem, confidence, and independence.
  • Take part in fun and engaging activities.
  • Try new experiences and learn new skills.
  • Improve communication skills in a supportive environment.
  • Enjoy activities such as games, crafts, cooking sessions, and social events.
  • Share experiences and challenges in a safe and understanding space.

Our sessions are supported by qualified Teachers of d/Deaf children and Young People and specialist staff who help create positive experiences and encourage young people to grow in confidence while developing lifelong friendships.

Support for families

Listen Up is not only for children and young people. We also aim to develop a supportive network for parents and carers, providing opportunities to connect with other families, share experiences, and access peer support within the d/Deaf community.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Listen Up Social Group, children and young people must:

  • Be aged between 4 and 18 years old
  • Have an identified deafness
